How we calculate this
We start from your TMS-reported deadhead and apply a 1.9× multiplier based on audit findings — most TMS systems miss stem time, dwell delays, and relay repositioning. We then model a 55% reduction in actual non-revenue drive time and apply marginal contribution per mile, which captures only avoidable cost plus recovered revenue margin, not fixed overhead.
